When you're planning a social event, you likely have a long to-do list. One of the first tasks to cross off should be choosing the perfect venue, and then everything else will fall into place. If you have a lot of event spaces from which to choose, there are things you can do to narrow down your options.

The right venue matters, regardless of what type of special event or occasion you're pulling together, such as a kids' or adults' birthday party, a family or corporation holiday get-togethers, bridal and baby showers, gender reveal gatherings, graduation and anniversary celebrations, family and class reunions, and any other type of social soiree. The perfect space will comfortably accommodate everyone on your guest list, while making them feel welcome as well.

There are many factors to consider when locking down an event venue, one of the most important being that the space allows guests to easily mix and mingle as they dance, eat or participate in any other type of activity. You may also desire a venue that provides added benefits as well, such as an onsite catering team.

Another major consideration is if you'd like to hold the event indoors or out, or a combination of both. If you pick an all-outdoor space, such as a local or national park, make sure you have a covered space, such as a rental tent, available in case of inclement weather.

After you've come up with your list of event space must-haves, here are some different types of venues to consider:

1. Country Barn

If you are looking for a casual event venue that offers both indoor and outdoor space and a relaxed, down-home feel, a country barn may be the perfect choice. You can either use a friend's or loved one's barn, or rent one for the special occasion.

Barns are convenient in that they allow the outdoors in while also providing ample coverage during storms. You can give the space a touch of elegance by hanging chandeliers from the rafters or wrapping string lights around beams and poles.

2. Banquet Hall

When you need a big space to accommodate a large guest list, a banquet hall may be the ticket. Not only will the hall provide a blank canvas for any type of themed decor, such as tropical plants, balloon arches, and floral centerpieces, they will allow you to choose from a myriad of seating and dining options.

Banquet halls also often come with added perks, such as onsite audio/visual equipment and food services.

About Me
Having Fun Planning Your Own Wedding

My name's Melissa. Welcome you to my website. I’m so excited to share about my wedding. My husband Jack and I got married five months ago. We planned our entire wedding by ourselves. It wasn’t that we didn’t have parents, family, or friends that wanted to help. In fact, they were all begging to help but we wanted to do this on our own. Before embarking on the wedding planning, we made one promise to each other. That promise was simply, "no stress." Sound impossible? We thought it might be because we had heard numerous times how stressful planning a wedding can be. We had a blast! If something started to get a bit touchy, we found a way to turn it around and make it a fun adventure. I’m going to tell you how we did it, and I hope you will be able to do the same. Enjoy!
